I clean a wide variety of rugs from delicate antiques to modern and machine made rugs.
If the rug is handmade, I never use a carpet cleaning machine as these are for fitted carpets and modern day machine made rugs.
If handmade then it’s hand cleaned, inch by inch using a fine horse hair brush and absorbent padding.
Remember when you first purchased that oriental rug? Beautiful vibrant colours and the lustre of the wool, how does it look today? Dull, grubby, tired looking, that lovely sheen disappeared?
Often people overlook the care of their rugs and carpets, but would you really wear a jumper for several years without washing it?
A handmade oriental rug has a good life span of around 70 years, this obviously depends on maintenance and care of your rug. Regular cleaning restores the beauty of your rugs, original colours are restored and the life span of the rug prolonged.

After my “FREE” Inspection and survey here are my rug cleaning steps designed to get the best results possible:

Hand beaten
Your rug is turned upside down and hand beaten over a grid to enable loose dirt and grit to fall out.

Pre-vacuum
Vacuuming will remove most surface soil. The tassels are avoided as these can tangle and break and gaps will appear.

Dye test
A dye test is run over various parts of the rug as it may be fast in one area but not in another. Sometimes I have to adjust the PH value of the cleaning solution according to the dye quality.

Stain treatment
Any stains are treated, only with natural solutions where possible.

Rug cleaning
Here we will choose the correct cleaning method for each individual piece. Hand-clean, dry-clean, low moisture or hot water extraction.

Tassel cleaning
Tassels are cleaned with a specific cotton detergent and rinsed.

Brush pile
Once cleaned, the pile of all rugs has to be brushed in the right direction.

Dried naturally
The rug will be dried naturally and monitored regularly to ensure the optimum drying time.
